Privacy Policy
How we collect, use, protect, and share information when you use GoCanvassing.
Effective date: August 2, 2026
1. Introduction
GoCanvassing ("GoCanvassing," "we," "us," or "our") provides a web-based platform for organizing door-to-door canvassing, turf management, field team coordination, and campaign progress tracking. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, how we keep it safe, and the choices available to you.
By creating an account, accepting a worker invitation, or otherwise using our services, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy and to our Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the platform.
2. Information We Collect
We collect information in three broad categories: information you provide, information generated through your use of the platform, and information collected automatically.
Information you provide
- Account information: name, email address, optional phone number, and password when you register or update your profile.
- Organization information: company or campaign organization name and related settings you configure.
- Worker invitations: email addresses of people you invite to join your organization as field workers or organizers.
- Campaign and canvassing data: turf boundaries, assigned areas, property addresses, visit status, notes, and other information you or your team enter while planning or conducting outreach.
- Communications: messages you send to us, such as support requests or feedback.
- Payment information: if you purchase a paid plan or credits, payment details are collected and processed by our payment processor (currently Stripe, Inc.). We do not store full credit card numbers on our servers.
Information generated through use of the platform
- Location data: when field workers use the mobile canvassing experience, the app may request device location permission to capture GPS coordinates at the time a door visit is logged. Location is used to confirm on-the-ground visit activity and improve address accuracy. You can control location permissions through your device settings.
- Activity records: timestamps, canvasser assignments, progress metrics, and audit-style records associated with campaigns, areas, and properties.
Information collected automatically
- Device and log data: IP address, browser type, operating system, referring URLs, pages viewed, and similar diagnostic information.
- Session data: authentication tokens, session identifiers, and related metadata needed to keep you signed in securely.
- Cookies and similar technologies: small files or identifiers used for authentication, security, preferences, and basic site functionality. See Section 10 for more detail.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, operate, maintain, and improve the GoCanvassing platform.
- Create and manage your account, organization, campaigns, and worker access.
- Enable map-based turf planning, property discovery, walk lists, and field progress tracking.
- Send transactional emails, such as account verification, password resets, and worker invitations.
- Process payments and manage billing for paid plans or credits.
- Monitor usage, troubleshoot issues, detect fraud or abuse, and protect the security of our services.
- Respond to your requests and provide customer support.
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms and policies.

4. Legal Bases for Processing
If you are located in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or another jurisdiction that requires a legal basis for processing personal data, we rely on one or more of the following:
- Contract: processing necessary to provide the services you request.
- Legitimate interests: operating, securing, and improving our platform, subject to your rights and interests.
- Consent: where required, such as for certain optional communications or device permissions.
- Legal obligation: where we must retain or disclose information to comply with applicable law.
5. How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only in the limited circumstances below:
- Within your organization: account holders, organizers, and authorized workers in your company or campaign can access data you submit to shared campaigns, consistent with their assigned roles.
- Service providers: trusted vendors that help us operate the platform, such as hosting providers, email delivery services, mapping providers, payment processors, and analytics or monitoring tools. These providers may access information only to perform services on our behalf and are contractually required to protect it.
- Legal and safety: when we believe disclosure is necessary to comply with law, respond to lawful requests, protect rights and safety, or investigate fraud or security incidents.
- Business transfers: in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of assets, subject to appropriate confidentiality protections.
- With your direction: when you explicitly ask us to share information or integrate with a third-party service you choose.
6. Third-Party Services
GoCanvassing integrates with third-party services to deliver core functionality. These services may collect information according to their own privacy policies. Examples include:
- Google Maps: for interactive maps and geocoding. The Service includes Google Maps features and content. Use of Google Maps features and content is subject to the then-current Google Maps/Google Earth Additional Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy.
- OpenStreetMap and related APIs: for street and address discovery in some workflows.
- Email delivery providers: for transactional messages such as verification and invitations.
- Cloud infrastructure providers: for hosting, storage, and database services.
- Payment processors: for billing when you purchase paid plans or credits (currently Stripe). The processor’s use of your payment information is governed by that processor’s privacy policy and terms.
Links on our marketing site or within the application may lead to third-party websites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites.
7. How We Keep Data Safe
We take the security of your information seriously and implement administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect it against unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, and destruction. These measures include:
- Encryption in transit: data transmitted between your browser or device and our servers is protected using industry-standard TLS (HTTPS).
- Password protection: account passwords are stored using one-way cryptographic hashing. We never store or transmit passwords in plain text.
- Access controls: role-based permissions limit who within an organization can view or modify campaign data. Internal access to production systems is restricted on a need-to-know basis.
- Authentication and session security: secure login flows, session management, and protections against common authentication attacks.
- Infrastructure security: our platform is hosted on reputable cloud infrastructure with network-level protections, patching, and monitoring.
- Data isolation: organizational and campaign data is logically separated so customers can manage their own teams and outreach records independently.
- Operational safeguards: regular software updates, vulnerability remediation, logging, and incident response procedures.
- Backup and recovery: periodic backups and recovery processes designed to maintain service continuity.
- Vendor management: service providers that handle personal data on our behalf are selected and managed with appropriate contractual security requirements.
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. While we work hard to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately at privacy@gocanvassing.app.
8. Data Retention
We retain personal information for as long as necessary to provide the services, fulfill the purposes described in this policy, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.
When you delete your account or request deletion of specific information, we will take reasonable steps to remove or anonymize it, except where retention is required by law or legitimate business needs such as fraud prevention, billing records, or security logs. You can submit a deletion or other privacy request through our Delete My Data page.
